Administration
Joyce Spencer, Principal
It is my pleasure to serve Bladen Lakes Primary as your principal. This is my third year in educational leadership and my nineteenth year in education. I follow my father and uncle who both taught for thirty years in Bladen County Schools. I will always be a teacher at heart!
My educational background includes a BFA in Theatre Arts & Education, along with graduate degrees in Instructional Technology and School Administration from East Carolina University (Arrggghhh…GO Pirates) and UNC Pembroke. I am also a graduating member of the Sandhills Leadership Cohort.
I am a lifelong learner and I believe that we never stop learning. I want Bladen Lakes Primary students to love learning. I strive to provide them a safe and nurturing environment where they want to be each day. I want to see our students excel and become contributing members of society, and productive human beings, who have every opportunity to be whatever they want to be.
It is a privilege to lead Bladen Lakes Primary School and the many talented educators and students here! My goal is to continue to provide a welcoming and supportive climate and culture that is advantageous to teaching and learning. By doing so, each individual student and teacher can experience growth to their highest potential. I look forward to seeing you all in our school community this year!
Joy Matthis, Assistant Principal
I am enthusiastic to serve as the Assistant Principal at Bladen Lake Primary and Elizabethtown Primary School. I earned an undergraduate degree in Family and Consumer Science Education from Western Carolina University and later completed a Master’s degree in School Administration from Grand Canyon University. This is my 26th year in education.
With a strong background in education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment, I am focused on supporting both students and teachers to achieve their fullest potential. I am passionate about promoting instructional time effectively and recognizing the achievements of the school community.
I look forward to contributing to the continued success of both schools.
